The 1966 FIFA World Cup Final was a football match played at Wembley Stadium, London, on 30 July 1966 to decide the victor of the 1966 FIFA World Cup, the eighth FIFA World Cup. The match was challenged by England and West Germany, with England winning 4–2 after additional opportunity to guarantee the Jules Rimet Trophy. It was the first – and to date just – event that England has facilitated or won the World Cup. This would remain England’s last at a significant global football competition for a very long time, until 2021 when the country arrived at the UEFA Euro 2020 Final at, fortuitously, the new Wembley Stadium. This appearance, notwithstanding, remains England’s just FIFA World Cup last to date.
